Steven M. Perry was a partner at Linde Thomson Langworthy Kohn & Van Dyke, P.C. in Kansas City, MO from 1983 to May of 1991. His legal practice was concentrated in the area of real estate development and finance. These include the syndication of commercial real estate, loan structuring and documentation, taxable and tax-exempt bond financing, bank and thrift regulatory matters, and the syndication, acquisition, and financing of multifamily housing involving the low-income housing tax credit.
Prior to joining Linde Thomson, Mr. Perry was associated with the Polsinelli Law Firm in Kansas City, MO. He practiced in the areas of real estate finance as well as corporate and real estate securities. Mr. Perry graduated with distinction from the University of Memphis in 1978 with a B.B.A. in finance and marketing. He received his Juris Doctorate degree with distinction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981.
Mr. Perry is a member of the Missouri Bar Association. He is also a licensed real estate broker in Missouri and Kansas.
John W. Ballard, III was Senior executive vice president and a director at Home Savings Association (HSA) of Kansas City, F.A., a savings and loan association with approximately $3 billion in assets. Mr. Ballard worked for HSA from October 1988 to March 1991. Mr. Ballard was responsible for the sale, asset management, and leasing of all commercial real estate owned properties, as well as joint venture and service corporation commercial investments. He managed the workout and foreclosure of troubled commercial real estate loans. During his tenure with Home Savings, Mr. Ballard was involved in the sale and/or restructuring of over $120 million of commercial real estate owned.
Prior to the merger of Safety Federal Savings and Loan Association of Kansas City into Home Savings Association in 1988, Mr. Ballard served as executive vice president of operations and director of Safety Federal Savings, a $450 million savings and loan association. Mr. Ballard commenced his career in the thrift industry in 1973 with Safety Federal. He was responsible for all thrift operations, including single family and commercial construction, and permanent real estate lending.
Mr. Ballard is a former director of the Kansas City Savings and Loan League and a previous board member of the Kansas City Mortgage Bankers Association. He is a licensed real estate broker and former insurance agent in the State of Kansas, and a licensed real estate broker in Missouri. Mr. Ballard held numerous official positions with the Central Division of the Kansas City Real Estate Board and was elected affiliate of the year of the Greater Kansas City Real Estate Board in 1983. In addition, he has also acted as a fee-based appraiser and has completed several American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers courses toward his MAI designation. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1973.
Over the last 40 years, Mr. Ballard has served on numerous non-profit boards in the Kansas City Area. In 1989, he was awarded the Cystic Fibrosis Pathfinder of the Year Award for the Kansas City Metropolitan Area in recognition of his outstanding fundraising accomplishments for the organization. He served as a Board of trustees’ member of St. Paul School Of Theology for over 21 years and received the President's Award for outstanding service in October of 2014. On July 26, 2016, Mr. Ballard was elected as a lifetime member of the board of trustees of St. Paul School of Theology in recognition of his outstanding service to the seminary with specific notation for service as head of the finance, audit, and investment committees. Mr. Ballard served as Past Chairman of the National Board of Directors of the University of Kansas Alumni Association as well as a member of its executive committee. Mr. Ballard currently serves as Co-Chairman of Kansans for Higher Education Political Action Committee, a political action committee that advocates for higher education funding by the state of Kansas. Currently Kansans for higher education is one of the largest PACs in the state of Kansas. January 2016, Mr. Ballard completed a 6-year term as a director of Mission Hills County Club in Mission Hills, Kansas.
